Baraki =93Colony Laspberry=94 (Worm Interface WI019)
Japan=92s Baraki is not just some =93musical novice=94. Classically trained=
, he is=20
an accomplished musician, playing guitar, synths, bass and sax (he played sa=
x=20
for Mixmaster Morris on his Japanese live dates). With his well recieved=20
western debut on Worm Interface=92s "Alt. Frequencies 3" compilation, Baraki=20
follows up with his first album for the label, =93Colony Laspberry=94.
Brutal, yet delicate, imagine huge, blocky, robots dressed like huns or=20
barbarians, standing on a mountain, staring down a valley poised to attack,=20
armed with spiked clubs, swords and chainsaws. Think of their violent charge=20
down the mountain as the beats. Now imagine at the bottom of the mountain i=
s=20
a small opening with flowers and butterflys, fragile, rusty robotic children=20
somberly enjoying the the ambiance of their surroundings. This scene=20
represents the melodies. Bring the two scenes together, and you=92ve got a=20
heavy serving of =93Colony Laspberry=94. At certain moments, the robot=20
barbarians plow merciliously through the robot children, at others they toy=20
with the children, playing ring around the rosey while =93accidently=94 ripp=
ing=20
their limbs off. =20
Definetly one of my favorite albums of the year.
