This is slightly off topic, and a read for more of you out there who know abou the gear IDM'ers use to make music, so delete at will. I'm curious if anyone out there knows what gear Autechre, Squarepusher, and Luke Vibert use. I am somewhat familiar with what different machines do, like I know of course LV and TJ use sampler technology pretty heavily, and of course TJ has his bass guitar, but I am looking for more specifics. Not that I have a ton of money to go out and buy all the gear they have, I'm just more curious than anything. I also wonder if someone else besides the artists master the material. Autechre's stuff has always sounded polished, but both LV and TJ have shown that either a) they have learned better mixing/mastering techniques as they progress or b)they have hired people, perhaps because of their bigger record contracts, to make the material sound more professional. For example, listen to Plug 1,2 or 3, and then to Big Soup. Major difference in production values. Now aesthetics of lo-fi vs. hi-fi is another thread, so don't go there... ok I'm a geek and I like to know these things... I've checked the web, but I couldn't find any gear listings. By asking what equipment Ae, LV and TJ use I hope I'm committing some IDM cardinal sin:) thanks Nate PS I know TJ uses a hardware sequencer, and I was under the impression AE uses Macs a lot. True/false?
