While we're on topic.. Here's a lengthy review
i did for Grooves 002 back in February. I recommend
all Emanate releases too, especially Lilienthal's
work..

The first release on the Emeryville, California based Emanated label is a prime
example of where intelligent dance music will [eventually] head, and where it
ought to be. Combining breathtaking snippets of melody, style, and function in
every track and a vividly percussive element threaded deep within each groove,
you'll be hitting the 'repeat' button several times before each tune sinks into
your subconscious. "Insert Silence," the opening track by Lillianthal (who are
currently wrapping up their next release) is a mind bending electronic
structure of syncopated beats, with subtle moods weaving peacefully within each
other. If you're familiar with the Boards of Canada, enjoy childlike imagery
with technically driven beats and sounds, then Lillianthal's "Scared Like Me"
will leave an emotion of pleasurable memories and a smirk on your face. O.S.T.
(a.k.a. Rook Vallade) has recorded for Switch Records of Detroit, Plug Research
and Worm Interface; While slowly inserting powerful bassline's that pulse just
as quickly as the blips and bleeps do, the track "August" is another gem that
redefines the path that electronica has taken. David Chandler (a.k.a. Solenoid,
who has recorded for OMCO and DISKono to name a few) is known for his deep and
mysterious combinations of electronics, digital noise, synthetic pulses of
disconnecting beats, and strangely enjoyable twists and loops. He offers up the
pleasantly confusing "Pillow Speaker" and "Time F." And just when you thought
your ears couldn't take any more of the mind drenching sounds spilling from
every corner, If.Then.Else. (who has just finished his next contribution for
Emanated) releases two of the most complex arrangements of electronica in the
tracks "Floating Point" and "Start/Stop/Continue." With 64 minutes of oddly
amusing tunes, Sybarite (a.k.a. Xian Hawkins) offers "Identity #1" and
"Identity #2," the latter of which is my favorite track on this hypnotic and
chemically energetic compilation. Xian Hawkins has already recorded two LP's
and a number of 7"s with Simeon of the late 60's group Silver Apples, and tap's
into an interesting part of IDM that is breathtakingly pure with a primary
focus on bringing ambience, melody and beat-driven simplicity all onto one
platform; He does this very well, and with great effect. For more information,
upcoming events/releases, and even some Real-Audio sound clips, check out the
Emanated web-site at http://www.syncopated.net/emanate. The folks at Emanated
have seeded yet another genre of electronica that is a trademark for
high-quality sound innovation. One of the best IDM compilations I've heard.
