a valid reason/etiquette would be if you own the work yourself or ask the record company for permission to do so (we're not all such bad people). Seriously though it's tricky for us. We don't want to appear as unreasonable assholes but it's hard to tell from a label perpective who is putting the stuff up because they like it and are trying to help promote their fav tunes, or who is just being shady and opportunistic about scamming our tracks. My feeling is that if you're trying to help promote...don't put the whole track/record up for download. If you're being opportunistic and just ripping off us and our artists...well then fuck off, I'll come over to your house and steal something of yours. If it's something that's out of print...ask the label. They just might say yes, to try and create demand for a repressing or at least it might kick the label in the ass to put it on their site for free. We got so many requests for the Kid Koala 10" that we put it up for free for 2 weeks and had over 4500 downloads...so it works.
