I think being nice to people is really nice.  As Mammy Yokum says "Good is
better than Evil because it's nicer."

The whole transaction between Fan and Artist is tilted toward niceness, even if
it isn't heartfelt.  The Fan pays the bills for the Artist -- no fans, and the
Artist is back to being a schlub who loads bakery trucks and gets yelled at
by his girlfriend for being a worthless twat.  So the Artist has a powerful
incentive to make everyone who strikes up a conversation feel, at least for
30 seconds, like the Artist is his or her Friend.

Is this whole thread based just a little bit on Brushes with Fame one-up-manship?

Got ya all in check. And I met Mr. Greenjeans from Captain Kangaroo. He was a
really nice guy!
