While searching for some of the same info, I came across Aaardvark
Mastering:

In addition to having info on vinyl mastering services (out of his home!),
this site contains a ton of information about the record manufacturing
process. Also I notice that nobody who presses these records call them
dubplates. They are referred to as acetates or reference lacquers. 

Its really cool site if you dig vinyl.
