>I spotted Wap41 at Alien Records in Austin. I believe it is called Lex >Loofah. I didn't listen to it but I was wondering what it is like. Lex Loofah "Freaky Deaky" (Warp / wap41 12" / 1993) It's written and produced by John Gilpin and engineered by Richard Brown. (Both sides are definitely on 45rpm, even if it says that Side B is on 33rpm. They fucked up,imo) I like it. It's deep, it's grooveyy ! If you are into Richard Brown, Coco Steel And Lovebomb, DIY, Circle City, Black Mojo, and all those Warpsters involved in Tequila Slammers And The Jump Jump Groove Generation ! A1. Freaky Deaky (More Bounce To The Ounce Mix) It starts of with groovy beat and moves in the air with panning on the snares and percusions. And theeeenn bleepy bass comes and you start to move. You start to move around even more when the vocal saying "Baybe !" gets in and then James Brownish "Ah!" Track is evolving realy slow, and then you hear nice break and then slap bass come in, yeaah. Than more and more vocal samples...and acidicid line. I love it. Claps, groovy loops..even more basss....If you are into Warp grove era, you'll love this one. B1. Step Off Starts with echoed claps and vocal samples : "Ahh Ihh Huh, Ahh Ehh, Huh .......Aaaaoooo" and then guess what : pause and nice groovy bass line. Pretty similar to Freaky Deaky with a lot of vocal samples (Com'On ! Step Off !). But it's more jazzier, nice trumpet and bleepy sounds really give this track special party feeling. Like on A1 you hear nice richard brownish percusion loops similar to a lot of tracks on Rhythm Invention "Inventures In Wonderland" (WarpCD15). Check out 'Chronoclasm' or 'P/Nutz' . 3. Ooh La La Hits with the housey 909 bassdrum, and voice saying : It's Hot ! It's Hot ! then break and again It's Hot ! Check'n'out ! and then a real bleepy bass. Again lots of voices : Let's rock it !, Come on ! Aha ! Ouuu! You got it ! Say yeah ! Oh Baby ! Uh ! Oh, rock it now ! Oho ! Com'on ! Say Ooh La La La, Say Ho Ho Ho, Say yeah, aha ! Great breaks, bleepy bassline.... jazzy organ and then another grittier bassline ! I specially liked the moment et the end of the track, when really nice melodie (modulated alert sirene like) gets in (too bad that it's not lasting longer).... It reminded me on melodies used on few tracks on Monomorph's Alternative Fluid album. Definitely the best track on EP imo. Score : 725 / 1000 bye rob p.s. This was my first review ever..... It must be so shitteee, but I'll post it anyway. Fuckin English ! I don't even now to speak Croatian properly.
