> PS I'm sure there are many of us on the list who have bought something > that they would not ordinarily buy, just because it has been reccomended > or discussed here. I know I have. Surely this sums up what the list is > all about - exploring music through communication. This list really is a great tribute to the power of the net to facilitate collaborative endeavors. It is such a simple concept, and yet overcomes many problems I know I face every day, namely: - keeping up with the frontiers of electronica across the globe. - sifting through the wastelands known as the web, looking for the really bad ass cool sites. - knowing whether or not to buy Future Sound of Richard's Bedroom Part 3.14XII-2, on 12"/CD/Tape/MD/DAT/DCC, or DVD. - how truthful articles in magazines are, or "why record companies really _are_ out to screw artists over". By "problem", I mean that in its strictest sense. I've got plenty else to do besides read mail on IDM, and frankly, I delete over half of all e-mail that comes in simply because I don't have time to read everything. But if a subject line catches me, I'll follow the thread to see where it leads. At any rate, this list serves far too many purposes to really classify it as just a "musician's" list, or "DJ" list, or "trainspotter's" list... it's really all of the above, and a whole lot more. np: the sound of lightbulbs being changed, someone running by my desk, a conversation by the copy machine, a chair being dragged over a duct-taped down power strip, only to unplug said plug fro.......
