(idm) Star Wars Breakbeats

a very short review:

great potential if well done, the
7-year-old-boy-who-saw-Star-Wars-for-the-first-time-who-lives-inside-me
still gets really excited about these sorts of things, BUT this thing
doesn't deliver.

The tunes are 70s inflected, loungey breakbeat funk--no problem here. Almost
every track is named after a line from one of the trilogy installments, but
instead of grabbing that sample by the throat and shaking it up until it
becomes something else, samples are simply applied like so much wallpaper.

A few exceptions occur, one track uses Vader's breathing as some sort of
instrument, another, "Languages" incorporates snippets of the various
languages spoken by aliens and robots alike into a collage, but overall,
this CD is just decent music with some Star Wars sprinkled on top. There's
no integration. The artist (I forget--some review, eh?) has not made the
samples his own. Its as though he was afraid to mangle these "sacred"
relics. Too Bad.
