Sometime in the recent past, Hekla typed to IDM:
>>Disc (Self titled double cd feat. Matmos)
>>Disc (Gaigin 4)
>>Disc w. KK Null

A) Didn't like Oval, thought it bland. Don't like Disc on CD format
either, kinda pointless. BUT, Disc live was a unique and fun experience.
Jay "Lesser" and Michael "Kid-606" playing around with a bunch of cds which
were damaged on the spot and a few mixers. Sure not all of it sounded the
greatest (though surprisingly enough more was good than bad), but it sure
was more "live" than Popp hanging out on stage with a laptop. More fun too.
B) probably not. Have one that I bought cheaply at the show and barely
ever listen to. But the collaborative disc with Null is worthwhile. But
I'm willing to give credit there to KKNull, as he is quite skilled at
taking mundane sources and making them interesting (sorta like Aube but
with more variety and skill).
C) ...and what label is Oval on?? As long as the recorded track is good
(and much of Lesser and Kid 606 is) than who cares what label it is on.
I'd much rather have it on a less expensive punk label than on some money
bloated thing like Warp. But if you're going to look at it that way,
should we write off Dead Voices on Air, Not Breathing, John Everall's
Sentrax label/Mick Harris's Possible label/Justin Broadrick's Lo Fibre
label because they are being distributed by Invisible (home of such
non-enriching artists as Sheep on Drugs and Pigface)?

My dissenting viewpoint of the day.
