There are loads of nice turntables from back in the day that can be
picked up quite inexpensively.  The best models (in my opinion) are any
of the direct drive turntables from the 70s by name manufacturers.
I've had a number of them that I've bought for anywhere from $5 to
$50.  Good brands are Technics (naturally), Pioneer, BSR, Denon, etc.  I wish
I still had my dad's old turntable from the 60s, as it was very nice, and
was where I first heard "Sgt Pepper's" and "Are You Experienced." For
that matter I wish I had his german headphones with the oil-filled ear
muffs ...
