Given your concerns and the relative prices I woudl say if you're certain
the MSY2 is what you wnat then just buy that and then you don't have to
worry.

I use an MSQ100 and love it. it drifts a few BPM when set to it's own
clock at times but I dont give a damn and have never noticed outside fo
the internal tempo indicator. It is nice to have the switchable midi
out/thru so you can also use it as a midi splitter and it's nice that is
has a LCD and click track. Overall I'd say it's more flexible than the
MSY2 but it's also bulkier and 20+ years old. If you want rock solid and
perfect you'd have a better chance with a new piece with a warrenty.

I've been using my KMS-30 and love it. It's got more sync stuff than the
MSQ100 and works like a charm.
