(idm) tracks or songs?

Sure. Easy way to put it: Is basic channel stuff tracks or songs?  Tracks I'd
say (unless you REALLY over analyze it). But songs have rigid units of
structure that are easily definable. (like u said, chorus, bridge, intro). A
track's progression is MUCH more subtle.

"progressive" forms for EDM often border on songs (and thus my distaste for
them).

I'll take it a step further and hazard to say that a DJ takes tracks and weaves
each discrete track, as an easily definable unit, into a song, an hour-long
song if you will.

But that's one of the things I love about idm/techno - the constraints of
writing songs are abolished. you can stretch one small musical or tonal idea
into 7 minutes, and in and of itself, that's the work of art!

anyway....sqrpshr, on his older albums, writes both tracks and songs. The songs
usually have the in your face melody and the bridges between melodic sections.
