Gil, Mike's stuff may not sound like old IDM, in fact it's not IDM at all, (hence it's being on disc one of Loraine instead of disc 2) so I wouldn't expect you to like it. However, in this case you don't know what you're talking about. When Mike Fix plays out he plays live. He brings a buttload of heavy, analog shit and generates the sounds live. I know this because I've helped him carry it, set it up, and even helped troubleshoot. If you're insinuating that he was playing a pre-recorded set at Loraine, then you're waay off. That was an entirely improvisational set with a bunch of other musicians, so there's no way he could have pre-recorded it. If he did bring a CD player, then you'd have to ask him what it was for. I know that when I put on the Robert Rich concert, he brought down 3 cd players that he would use with CD-r's he wrote at home that had background sounds like running water, birds chirping, and stuff like that. He's been on my show twice, and he's done it two different ways. The first time, he recorded the set in his studio and then played it back at KUCI. The second time he did it live, we even had a grounding problem so there was a buzz going in the beginning that we didn't catch during the sound check. (That's the best way to tell if it's really live, if there's little mistakes). This time, he's going to pre-record the set in his and bring in a DAT. That's why It's billed as "Mike Fix Live Performance" as opposed to "Mike Fix Performs Live" as I usually do it. And for the record, there's a band coming in the studio on the show after mine this week, so to make things run more smoothly Surface 10 will be recording his performance in his studio as well. -Daniel xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx ICQ# 16654223 ============================================================================== Listen to "Space Disco for Fish Tacos", KUCI 88.9fm Wednesdays 8-10pm Space Disco For Fish Tacos web site: http://www.kuci.org/~dbremmer *New* Peach Web Site: http://www.peachfuzz.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Cheerleading is my sport, Jesus is my life."
