Hey. Anyone heard the new Johannes Heil project, Ace Beats? 'Whispering ' is a 180bpm skippy breakbeat thing with a long Louis Armstrong sample in it. It's well cheeky, comes off in a sorta stripped Amon Tobin style. Cuts to the sample at the end for a minute or two and sounds great with a hip-hop break over it. The flip is bizarre choppy techno thing, with samples of what sounds like Mortal Kombat sword sounds. It's on a label called Mash Up. Also, anyone follow Phil Asher's work? He's coming to Perth next with Carl Craig for a huge gig at this mad ballroom. Soiree... I picked up his new 12' , Modaji's Outboard Jeopardy. It fools around on a 2-step latin house groove, and is testament to the rumours going round that this man, along with his Restless Soul project is going to step up as the next MAW/NuYorican Soul. We shall see. I'm trying to secure an interview at the moment. Will let you know.
