Can't resist. Only one cure i am aware of -- sell the 808. That rumble is
one of its most sought after features.
More seriously it just might not be the machine for you. Other fixes:
1) Any of the percussion drum machine modules, from doepfer to the SDSV let
you tweak envelopes
2) Dedicate an analog synth with good filter adsrs to bass drum only.
Minimoog has excellent short envelopes, the roland adsrs don't go as short
as the moog ones.
3) Add a gate with very fast shut down time to clip the drum off.

Me, I love that Link Wray meets Godzilla rumble. Lorne in Canada
