There's a big difference between adding a few extra pots to a classic synth
and scrapping it to build new modules.
I think you misrepresent the nature of the list by implying that there is
some collective opinion that contradicts itself.

I would be happy to sell a dead instrument to someone that will break it up
for spares if I thought that those spares would be used to get another old
synth running again.

The problem with Doepfer is that they want to deplete the available supply
of 3340s by breaking old synths to build *new* modules - when there is
absolutley no reason to do so (other than their possibly having a number of
unpopulated PCBs to fill), and there is no guarantee that the *rest* of the
synths - keyboards, cases, displays, knobs, rare logic chips, ASICs etc.
will be salvaged.

Still, it's nice to see that Doepfers UK distributors will stick up for
them, albeit without mentioning that fact.
