Greetings from Caipirinha, Below is a press release of our first installment of bringing Architettura to a live setting. The performance shall take place within the actual structure of the Brooklyn Bridge, NYC. This synergy between the man-made worlds of architecture and electronic music have already generated a mass of interest and respect. We hope you see this ongoing project as an opportunity to provide readers with a unique perception of two highly creative sources. Please contact myself with any inquiries and I thank you in advance for your time and interest. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caipirinha Productions, in conjunction with Creative Time, invite you to a night of architecture, film and music. 'Architettura' will be taking place at the Brooklyn Anchorage, Saturday, June 19th, 1999 from 9PM to 1AM. "Where postmodernists in the 70's and 80's approached architecture with the idea of deconstruction, overanalysis, and philosophical symbolism, we are now moving into an era of supermodernism. The emphasis of architecture has moved from meaning, message, and visual excess to aesthetics of transparency." -Hans Ieblings, Supermodernism: Architecture in theAge of Globalization The installations will focus on contemporary architecture/design and electronic music of the late 20th century and present ideas for where they are heading in the 21st century. The evening will include: Soundscapes presented by Caipirinha musicians: Taylor Deupree, Terre Thaemlitz, Unit, Somatic, Datach'i and a internet broadcast performance direct from the Sonar Festival in Barcelona by David Toop. His performance shall include selections from Architettura's Volume 3 CD release. A slide show of the architecture that inspired the first 3 volumes of the Caipirinha Music "Architettura CD Series", to be presented during the performances of the corresponding musicians. The architects involved in the series include: Toyo Ito (The Tower of Winds - Tokyo, Japan) Nicholas Grimshaw (The Waterloo Terminal - London, England) and Itsuko Hasegawa (The Museum Of Fruit - Mt. Fuji, Japan) and, in anticipation of Volume 4 of the series, Oscar Niemeyer (The Museum of Modern Art in Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) A film installation on contemporary architecture including footage from the United States, Denmark, Japan, Spain, Brazil, England, and France. The footage is edited to music and intercut with written quotes on the subject of technological architecture, culture, and music. The typography is designed by musician / graphic designer Taylor Deupree, the film shot by Marcus Burnett (Modulations), edited by Andreas Troeger (visual editor for Nam June Paik video installations and Synthetic Pleasures), and directed by Iara Lee (Synthetic Pleasures, Modulations). The evening's sonic events will be recorded, edited and reconstructed for a full length CD on Caipirinha Music tentatively titled "Sounds of the Anchorage". Mark Wlodarkiewicz (sound montage artist for Caipirinha films 'Modulations' and 'Synthetic Pleasures') shall edit the CD. =============================== SUMMER's A GREAT TIME FOR A CAIPIRINHA!! enjoy these new releases with your cocktail... 18 MAY 99 - MODULATIONS 'CINEMA FOR THE EAR' ON VIDEO! the film that documented the past, present and future of a digital culture is to be finally released to the world.
