After owning a 2600 for 23 years, then switching to a Blacet / Wiard / Metalbox / GLM / Frostwave modular I found that: * the 2600 has a serious shortage of VCAs * the 2600 needs an ADSR instead of the AR * a multi-mode filter with VC resonance is better than a basic LP * VCO 1 & 3 on the 2600 are pretty basic (VCO 2 is great!) * old dirty sliders are a pain Many of these can be added via mods to the 2600, but that gets pricey real quick. As much as I miss my baby (which went to a loving home BTW), I'm really happy the way things turned out. The Macbeth looks great but studio space is too valuable to me to fit in a bigger synth than is needed. I love my 2600 but even after a rather large purchase price, I am having to make room in my budget for modifications and clean up work on it. Even after all of the money spent, it will still have very old parts in it which are not completely reliable. New boutique synths look more and more attractive. Even at these prices. >From: xxxxxx@xxx.xxx >To: xxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx >CC: xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx >Subject: Re: [AH] prices for an ARP 2600... >Date: Fri, 08 Jul 2005 12:03:49 -0400 > >If anyone is going to drop that sort of $$ for something new and >monophonic, another to consider is the Cwejman S-1, for the same reasons >Les has stated.
