Subject: felq interview from the cable. just over two years ago, the scientific community was rocked by the news that scottish scientists had cloned the popular electronic combo autechre. having abondoned the name betsy, given to them by the team of doctors, they relocated to germany, assumed new identities and adopted the name felq. we recently spoke w/ gunter and nissan, who make up felq, after they had completed recording of their first as yet untitled full length release. the cable: so what have you been up to for the last two years? gunter: well we have already assimilated the memories of recording all the our genetic fathers' releases, and we did a remix to, if you like, polish those skills. nissan: yes we set all the machines we have to their 'thud' setting, switched them on and then went and drank beer for exactly nine minutes and forty seconds. gunter: now however we are embarking on a new direction. the new lp will have a definite flamenco feel. the cable: but hasn't the flamenco thing become a bit overdone lately? there was our own article on 'avant flamenc', rolling stone recently coined the term 'flamenctronica', and simon reynolds has been championing the whole drugs and castanets based club culture in his new book 'flamenco rave nation'. there's also the recent success of the swedish based flmc label, w/ their cdr releases of bedroom flamencoists from all over europe. gunter: well, it is unlikely they will have quite the same grey and angular industrial edge that we will be bringing to flamenco. nissan: yes, with a very great deal of attention to detail, and many, many new and interesting noises. gunter: and trademark melodies. nissan: yes. the cable: so finally, what's your favorite color? gunter: we find color to be an outmoded concept that has no place in this new age of machines. nissan: i do quite like mauve though. © copyright of the cable magazine ltd 1999
