Well, short of snapping up Carty's double doepfer system, how about an SEM or 2?

The sound of the unit is definately a classic, I don't notice the carrier
bleed-through when FMing the filters or oscillators (at least not enough to
complain about, less than on the Pro-One I used to have.) I do get
noticable bleed when FMing the VCA, but it's not *that* bad. Since it is
V/8tave, when you do FM you get a frequency shift, which means variable
index FM while staying in tune is best forgotten.

I consistently get extremely crazy stuff out of the patchable 2 voice, and
I'm still learning things about it, like exactly how the VCA patch points
function (I think Mr. Daydodge forgot to give me VCA input patch points, got
to fix that) and how to use a sequencer clocked by an audio Osc. Yesterday
I inally tried feeding the S&H an Oscillator while clocking it with another
Oscillator several octaves higher in pitch for *analog* aliasing sounds.
Very strange, but not a whole lot of high end.

Single SEMs can be had, I think dpro had one not to long ago FS at a
reasonable price. I got my two voice from (sh...) Chris Youdel, for a nice
price as It had no case or keyboard, just two SEMs and the sequencer bolted
to a piece of wood with a big plank panel (great for 1/8" jacks) where the
keyboard should have been.

They are easy to patch out (just bring the molex points to jacks in front)
and even have built in attenuation for mod amounts when patching. The
filters can even invert the modulation, which gives diferent sounds
completely. One interesting thing: the sample & hold in the sequencer also
seems to invert the sampled voltage, stange.

BTW, are you patching out the Avatar yourself? Is it easy w/ the Service
docs? Let me know when my copies are out the door & how much $$ you need
for the service.
