From the article in RES,=20 Cunningham says, "The problem with that book is that it's been picked=20 clean over the last ten years ... but I still think there's a=20 brilliant film in there. . . I certainly don't want it to be my first=20 film. It would kill me." Gibson speaks of Cunningham: "The guy's a=20 genius. He's the man for the job - Neuromancer was his 'Wind of the=20 Williows'." "I hate all that virtual reality stuff. It's just so unbelievably=20 boring. It's not gonna be a film about that, I just don't think that=20 stuff is even relevant..." So will it be more character-based?=20 "Totally, yeah - it's like a really bizarre, trippy thriller. To=20 turn it into a film, the first thing you would have to do is bin all=20 that VR bollocks. To me that would be like making a film about a=20 phone or a car, which in ten years time will be as much in the=20 background. "I'm working on two films right now, two scripts. One of=20 them is my own script which I'll probably do first, a straight drama.=20 When I was a kid I loved Kes as much as I loved Tron, and the script=20 I'm working on is in that Kes area, it's the closest thing I can=20 compare it to. And then after that, if I go on to make Neuromancer...=20 to me that's part of the fun of it, watching the faces of people when=20 you surprise them." (Flux, #14) Neuromancer is slated for a 2000 release date by Seven Arts Pictures.=20 =46or more information, visit Coming Attractions. There is also an=20 official Neuromancer movie web-site with information about=20 Cunningham, Gibson, and others involved with the film.
