Hello list! Look what the cat dragged in..... Me!! Don't worry, I'm really just popping my head in to make a small announcement or two, so I won't clutter up the list for very long. :) Here's my public service rap for the day: For those that already have synths here at my place, I'd like to assure you that I'm attempting to finish *most* of the jobs by year's end and everything else here by the end of January 1999. The projects that will take slightly longer will be the heavy mod jobs. This doesn't mean that all jobs currently here will take this long, but it DOES mean that I'm not taking in ANY new projects until after the new year. Another announcement is a rather strange one and will require some explanation: Sometime in the next few weeks or months, I am going to "book" a block of several days at Hans Zimmer's studio to do some recording. Mike Peake will be assisting and is the co-conspirator in this. The idea here is that Hans has got a LOT of nice modular gear and that it would be neat to realize some of the really crazy, off-the-wall modular patches that many of us have dreamt up, but didn't have enough modules to ever realize. An attempt to do some of the "what if" patches most of us can't, but wondered about. For example, his Roland Sys100m has 58 vcos, 32 envs, 9 sequencers and a dozen VC'd phasors/flangers. The Moog has a Sennheiser vocoder, shepard generator, Bode Freq shifter, VCDO, several Moog sequencers, etc. He also has a lot of Doepfer and Polyfusion I'm planning on "hitting." What I would like to do is solicit patches or ideas for patches from anyone interested in participating. I KNOW there are many variables in modulars and patch notation and that it will be very difficult to exactly realize someone's idea, but I still think it would offer some great "starting points" for exploration. All of the sessions will be recorded to DAT continuously, to analog tape possibly too. The end usage of all of this fun is undecided. I'm not sure the material will be marketable or usuable for samplers, etc, but those that offered ideas will get a copy of their patch via CD, wav, mp3 or whatever they reasonably choose. I would appreciate anyone's input on this whole thing. If you think it's a dumb idea, please speak up. If you have some input regarding patch notation or whatever, I'd love to hear any ideas. Otherwise, have a happy Friday and a great day! -Kevin http://www.synthfool.com
