(idm) Review: 'The K&D Sessions' - Kruder & Dorfmeister

This is a double CD / quadruple 12" collection of
previously released remixes of other acts. It's
pretty easy to dismiss this as an easy source of
income for those involved, but I wonder whether
they, like Carl Craig, find more satisfaction in
the remix than in "original" tracks.

The whole album flows beautifully. It's very
smooth, tending towards the dreaded land of acid
jazz sometimes, but I come away from each listen
impressed with its lushness. I certainly don't
think the production is mere gloss, but more of an
engulfing, hazy atmosphere.

I'm also damn impressed by their ability to bend a
wide range of material to their own distinctive
sound. I feel like these really are K&D's tunes
(again a bit like Carl Craig in that respects).

For anyone who's got several of the mixes featured
already, there are some differences in the ones
presented here, but they are largely cosmetic dub
effects.

Oh alright, I'll say it: yes, it'd be damn fine to
get stoned to on a Summer evening, if you're so
inclined. :-)

silly, and so good)
