This message is being posted to Ambient, IDM and 313
mailing lists.. Why? --ambient (this title falls right in line w/
the Ambient list members), 313 (Roderick Julian is a resident
of the Detroit area), IDM (it's absolutely intelligent and will
get your brain cells moving..)..

Well.. i've had this title for well over 2-3 years now and
a little experiment has been conducted.. Some of you
might find this a little bizarre or perhaps quite interesting,
but i highly suggest you give it a try if you have an extra
CD-player and a lounge-y area in your place of residence..

Last Tuesday night i (once again) dropped Rod Modell's
"The Autonomous Music Project" (Lunar) on the CD-tray for
the nth time before falling asleep.. The next morning i
left for Atlanta and returned on Saturday night.. My significant
other decided to leave the Rod Model on 'repeat all' for the
days i was gone.. and it's still, to this minute, rotating its "cool
watery depths" in the other room..

I must admit now that this title endures the test of time
and repeated rotations consistently. Rod's music not only
can be described as atmospherically driven, but it also fills
any room with an array of unusually natural soundscapes
from tiny air molecules flowing into watery bubbles to a
thick blanket of light yet industrialized buzzing, and soothing
microscopic debris.

While most of this album was meant to be released in this
direction, i've only just recently realized that it is the perfect
landscape for background listening at night and during the day..
"The Autonomous Music Project" emits a certain radiant wave
of simplicity and pensive electrical currents.

I've plugged this album before, and will continue to do so
as i feel it deserves the appreciation of an audience within
the Ambient list community. If you haven't already picked
this one up, try to locate it.. if you do have it, try the
repeated play experiment and let me know your results!

Here are some liner notes from Rod Modell's "Autonomous.."::

"My inspiration for these soundscapes were natures organic
elements. My aim was to bring the listener a vivid, high-resolution
experience, and not merely a listening. Using sound as my
medium, i wanted to reproduce the sensations created by air
and water, coolness and warmth, darkness and light. Virtual
reality on a CD, available using closed eyes, a comfortable place,
and a hi-fi system."

Just thought i'd mention this experiment as it has truly
been a part of our personal landscape of soothing ambient
beauty..
