surprisingly little disscussion on this one:

HSO: HSOverload EP (Drop Beat spl04)
This brilliant experimental drum n' bass (instore) label from
oakland brings us it's fourth release. And what a release it is. As
opposed to the previous three releases, this one falls closer to the plug
side of the fence with a much more jazzy, funky feel to it. "Goose
Bumps" kicks off with some hip hop beats, before kicking into a jazzy
piano, deep bass and some mad hectic breaks. Assorted vocal samples
flutter throughout the track. "monadock", on the flip side, starts off
as more of the same, except with stop-and-go breaks this time, before a
short horn solo sends us off into some bass heavy stuff with a deeeep
synth line. "Strech Strength" shows us the real power of the hso. The
insane breaks continue, but this time with a bleepy, 'lo-fi', analouge
melody creeping out of it. Fans of the distinctive sounds of Plug,
Carpet Bomb, and the like are sure to eat this one up.
