Thanks John for your explanation.  I still have one thing I dont understand:

Why is the 512 stage more expensive than the 1024 and 2048?  I know the 512
uses the 'rare' MN3*** chips but why charge more for less stages?

Maybe I am off track with this.  Im thinking in terms of digital samplers
where more sampling time = more desirable = more expensive.  Is it the case
that for BBD you might actually chose to go for 512 stages because of your
intended application?  John was suggesting this but just want to make sure..

I might open up this little fella later and see if I can tell what chips it

This is my reason for considering the 188 as everything I put through my
Madrack D7 turns to gold(!) even if you have it so subtle that its almost
inaudible without a on/off reminder. Would be great to get a little of that
magic with some CV control..
