(idm) Japanese style live jungle

Cornelius (Japanese artist, kindred spirit to Pizzicato Five, hyped by James
Lavelle) was on last night's (rather old) episode of a Japanese music TV
show
that is broadcast weekly in the San Fran area. He performed his single "Star
Fruits Surf Rider" (very Japlish, that), a light, jazzy, sugary jungle track
with soothing melodies, kinda like E-Z Rollers except even fluffier.

Anyways, he came on with his acoustic guitar, but instead of being backed up
by some guy with a sequencer or what have you, he had two buff-looking
RayBans-decked guys in the back, each with his own full drum kit. One guy
was
hitting the cymbals the whole time, while the other dude would kick in
during
the chorus when the jungle rhythms would come on. It didn't seem like they
were even really playing, but it was amusing to look at someone who looks
like
a heavy metal drummer playing (or attempting to play) superfast jungle beats
on an actual drum kit.

Cornelius also played the Theremin at one point, next to a guy in a sci-fi
superhero costume who would occasionally break several wooden boards with
his
fist karate-style.

Very weird, and probably hell of a lot more entertaining than your average
d'n'b gig.
