Appealing?  something like "reizend", while appalling has a rather 
wide number of possibilities.  "Entsetzlich" comes to mind.  
Certainly none that I can think of that would be as punnishly similar 
as the two English words.  

Aufgehaben?  Go back to German 0.1 and don't pass go!  :-)
