In most cases, the act would use a Delay/Sampler unit - I have a Digitech D/S pedal - it samples up to 2 seconds. You sample live and can either set you sample to loop or you can trigger it by a footpedal or some other controller (drum pad, keyboard, button, etc.). I use my pedal as an effect on my mixer so I can send any source through the delay and sample at will. Once something is sampled, the volumve level and speed (tempo) can be adjusted. At that point I trigger the sample back into the mix or I set it to loop and use that as a bed of sound to work on top of. This works great as a transitioning technique between two different pieces of music. There are even a few DJ mixers that have short phrase samplers built into them. Hopefully that paints a picture for you. -- Hasta, Gideon ............................................ Sonic Wallpaper http://www.sonicwallpaper.com http://www.mp3.com/sonicwallpaper
