Thanks Nick, I tried FM on every synth/oscillator/resonant filter I owned, using VCA to apply different amounts of modulation per step. Some of the best are: - FM-ing Minimog filter with it's third oscillator- beautiful bell-like sounds of great purity and beauty. - Mono/Poly - delicious metalic timbres. - MS-20 version 1 - select ring modulation as a carrier, use external oscillator as modulator of course, set filters to scream. I tried many others, including poorly-modded SH-101 (unpleasant, but sharp, intriguing sounds), and some modulars as well. They all had their own sound, but those above simply stayed embedded in my memory. I do not own any of these anymore. I tried replacing them with one modular synth that was supposed to do it all. What a mistake. Luckily, I found the answer in Jupiter 6. Doepfer's regular A-130 is useful since the top >knob lets you manually adjust gain even if no control voltage is present >and the output knob attenuates what comes out if it. > > nick
