The ninja crew played south beach last night, or at least the northern end. It was the traditional show of neotropic, vadim, herb, choc. weas. The venue was real nice...couchs, vip, dance floor, 3 bars, pool tables. They advertised doors open at 8 of course they didn't open till 9:30..After listening to some pathetic attempts at djing by some amatuers, and an interesting hard trance set, at 12 neotropic got on stage and assumed the position. At this point some people moved to the previously empty dance floor. There were no more than 60-70 in the club at one time, which is pretty shitty since the club usually carries hundreds. Anyway Riz played a great set...nice noise, interesting beats, and i loved the home videos(?)...then vadim spun into her and was doing pretty good for about 20 minutes then came the old skool....now prior to the show i was thinking...how could this lineup be any less than good, even though everbody had mentioned being let down, i didn't see how it was possible...boy was i wrong..it started with one old skool tune then another, then back to some smoother stuff, then back to old skool...soon enough i noticed i wasn't paying attention anymore, i was even starting to notice some of the freaky raver chics i try to avoid. Eventually the nagging feeling of, "i wish this guy would just get off the stage already set in", not to say that the beggining of the set wasn't good..he played some of his better songs and even layered some songs together with his 4 tables(the turntable tv{sorry isp} was pretty interesting for a while)which came out pretty good when he was constructing em, but i guess he got lazy. Nonethless after about an hour or so he stepped down and ollie from herbaliser got up...honestly he got off on a bad foot, never even played anything all night that was his or anybody on ntune that i could recognize. He spun for another hour or so before jake got up and continued the boredom.... At this point i made my rounds and talked to everyone: interesting findings: THe whole lot of em was very nice walking through the crowd and talking to people, shaking hands and such, unfortunately to talk to em you had to yell in each others ears, it was once again very loud. -Dj Vadim: only knows how to breakdance a little bit, he says that people breakdance at all his shows, and he is very proud that england is home to the best bboys in the world. -Neotropic:Concerning the album in september she said shes deffinitely trying to shift her stlye from 15 levels towards what she played live and that the stuff she played that night is what the album is going to sound like, some of it was exceprts/samples/portions of what is going to be on the album. -Ollie:nothing much, used to be a bboy -Jake: went up to him and asked him when he was going on and he seemed surprised that anyone even recognized him. -Choclate weasel: after being there for 6 hours and only hearing an hour or so of good stuff i left, didn't see them walking around or anything, if theres anybody else who stayed for them i'd be interested to hear what it was like. nonetheless it wasn't as bad as i make it out to be, i'm just a pessimist. Enjoyed riz, some vadim, and the occasional good song that was played. as far as souveneirs i talked the salesman(who was he?) and mentioned that shirts were 16 at other places(they were 18 last night) he said, yeah they lower the prices for backwater towns, so depending on what your merchandise prices were at your show, is your ninja tune town/backwater rating. _____________________________________ If you've read this far you get the benefit of privileged schematic information. The Rich Coleman -divine ep(005) sold out real quick and is being repressed and should be back in stores/circulation in about a month The metic(006) is just starting to be circulated, they have lots waiting to be sent out to places, Modernmusic is gonna be the place to watch for these as a shipment will be going there soon. If you can't find any of their stuff around the best place to look is in germany, they send a majority of their stuff straight to germany, the germans love their stuff!! ---The rich coleman is some great stuff, he has been doing electro for a long time as well as playing lots of instruments, the ep itself is one of the best so far. THere is one song that is just basically 5 minutes of some of the best funky, tripped out, wicked fucking electro sounds you can find and they are all strung togehter to make a song. The metic ep is also pretty damn good, it is more harsh than the first one, sometimes sounding very MAS like at points, but still sticks true to some great textures as well as poignant melodies associated with some schema material. Both of these deffinite must gets, and there even at domestic prices! -+Watch out for schematic in the future they have releases planned and ready in the double digits... =|\-dj.mercenary.-questions?comments!mail>me
