Started off in a Japanese band called Yellow Magic Orchestra (who started off around the same time Kraftwerk did). YMO went on to be influential for a lot of people, but never got to be "stars" like Kraftwerk. Robert Hood sampled one of their tracks on his first Mplant release, and a lot of others have done the same. Since YMO, he's done soundtrack work (Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, Last Emperor...), nu-classical music, and electronic stuff as well. His and YMO's material is well worth investigating.
