} but anything else ?

go to http://www.filemine.com
and search for "speech"

i'd recommend "willow talk" for the pc. it has a handful of possible voices
and it allows you to tweak the voices using pitch/volume/speed. also you can
highlight chunks of text in e-mail readers, word processors, etc. and it
will read it. pretty cool. also the speech is very understandable. the only
drawback is the program is shareware so it expires after a few weeks if you
don't register it (i.e. pay $).

the only other program i tried at filemine for text->speech was winspeech
(link is wsp301n.zip), but this program was bare bones -- one voice, which
was harder to understand and the vocubulary was fairly limited so it
mispronounced words sometimes.

oh yeah, if any of you are into old (80's) arcade games (xevious, gyruss,
galaga, tempest, etc.), i'd highly recommend you search for "mame" at the
same site and you won't be disappointed. :)
