Surgeon "Communications" (Downwards LP1 - 2x12")

this Anthony Child production was released in '96. no ambient, just a =
few decent percussive and some bleepy tracks. this is far from his best =
work. haven't listened to this in a year or so, and i'm not even gonna =
put it on now because it's just doesn't do it for me. don't like it at =
all. stay away from this one, unless you're a hardcore Surgeonoist, and =
my guess is that those are rare on a list like this one.

>My favorite singles by him are Muggerscumout (Soma), Pet 2000
>(Downwards), and Magneze (Downwards).
>
on the two first i totally agree with you, but i don't think i've heard =
Magneze so i couldn't comment on that one. and btw these aren't ambient, =
just wacky tracky 909 w/ distortion. don't think Muggerscum Out has been =
repressed, so that one could be a bitch to find, but i'm not really =
sure.

>Most of his early stuff is pretty good. Some of the 12"s he released
>after Basic Tonal Vocabulary were getting kind of strange. I remember
>not really liking the singles Patience and Learning. They weren't bad,
>just not what I was looking for.
>
listened to those two when they first came out. didn't like them. =
beware.

>That's kind of what hoped that Cari Lekebusch and Adam Beyer would do.
>I thought they were really good for a while but they seem to be in a
>monotone rut.=20
>
talking of what Cari Lekebusch should do i think he should go back to =
the way Hybrid used to sound a few years ago and talking about Hybrid i =
have some information which could be interesting for the swedes on the =
list...

Hybrid is selling out a some of their older stuff at their website =
(http://www.algonet.se/~hybridpd). i remember seeing stuff like Sound =
Architectures (HYBCD 001, vinyl version sold out a long time ago - =
contains remixes of HYB 01-10), Sir Augustus Granith Hall "The Kattajaq =
Story" (APCD 002, very good odd tribal stuff from Cari Lekebusch), =
Tupilaq "Vaisen EP" (AP1201, very good ambient from Krister Linder), =
Cari Lekebusch "Yellow Blood" (AP1202, ambient electro or whatever, i =
can't remember what this one was like) + new mixtapes from Lekebusch, =
some other old Hybrid releases and slipmats.

i think the Hybrid homepage said that these items could only be ordered =
in Sweden only. but check the web just in case, my mind could be =
buggin'.

bauri
