Can you recommend a > > good first foray into their material? > Refried Ectoplasm. that wouldn't be something i'd recommend anyone, much less a stereolab newbie. just get dots & loops, or even better, emperor tomato ketchup (my personal favorite), & if you can stand it, go backwards in time from there. refried ectoplasm is my least favorite stereolab record & i'm pretty glad i sold it. there's a total of around 3 good songs on it. good old stereolab is 'transient random noise bursts with announcements' & 'the groop played space age batchelor pad music'. if the length of the title of the next release is any indication, it should be quite good. but i doubt i'll buy it. -- david
