a bunch of interesting stuff came out this week. i'm interested in people's opinions of the following: -- I-f, The Man From PACK -- the long-awaited first Interdimensional Transmissions "artist LP." the whites i heard of this a few months back i remember being a little less engaging than this. or maybe it's a grower. either way, i get deeper into it with each listen. there are still a couple tracks that are just a little too sparse for my tastes, but the best of the best ("secret desire," "the getaway scene," "theme from pack") are pretty great. -- D'Arcangelo, Shipwreck LP -- the first full-length from d'arcangelo on the Rephlex label. their past stuff has been spotty imo, but their sound really comes together on this album. where previous singles were a little too lo-fi and a/b-rhythmic, there's a much more expanded sense of composition in evidence here; a lot more work went into these tracks, and they prove it by being both engaging and constantly surprising. the rome scene in general has been picking up of late it seems, with the mostly solid nature compilation and the latest mat-101 coming to mind as some of the most impressive italian experimental electro yet. -- Potuznik, Concorde -- wow. this is a fucking weird record. potuznik with mego's ramon bauer doing a fusion of gerhard deluxxean electro-pop, more composerly idm-y gear, and fucked digital expectations abuse. this is right up there on my top 10 for the year so far -- a very satisfying and ultimately quite accessible collection of music both satisfying and doggedly complex. also, the shuttle358 cd comes out this week. probably few have heard of this, but it's a fella from l.a. named dan abrams doing some of the most beautiful and intriguing fusions of digital ambient and experimental glitch music i've yet to hear. like robert rich meets coil, or global comm meets mego. highly, highly recommended. sc
