Eric (Kid Koala) would be the first one to admit that Q-Bert is a more
skilled scratch-DJ than himself. For me (and the reason we signed Kid
Koala) Koala has a much better composition style to what he does. He's
not really a battle DJ at all, he's a wicked performer/DJ/recording
artists who also has some mad scratching skills. He basically reminds us
of where Coldcut were at 8 years ago. If you want young, you should check
out Montreal's other finest A-Trak. World DMC champ at 15 years old.
A-Trak and Koala did a blinding set together at the Deep Concentration
show here in Montreal a few weeks ago. Cut Chemist rocked that night hard
in my opinion. Started off by recreating 'Adventures on the Wheels of
Steel' on 4 decks, moved to some hiphop classics, latin-jazz, funk, and
ended up by throwing down the Mohawks 'The Champ' (always cracks me up
when this goes down and there is that split second of people always
screaming because they think it's KRS, and then they get all confused,
same thing when he dropped Caravan by Liquid Liquid). Anyway, it ain't
always about the scratch.

Anyone else get the feeling sometimes at these scratch DJ shows that you
might as well be at a Joe Satriani gig in the '80's with all those air
scratches replacing the air guitaring.
