Hi folks, I know these machines are not really cheap but some of you might have heard about Sebastian Niessen from Germany who is building analog step sequencers (the SND SAM-16). I have never played one myself but as far as I have been told it must be even more powerful than an ARP Sequencer (imagine three ARPs in one box, so to say). It can be fully synced to MIDI as well as to analog equipment. The original price of this hand-made device was something around 3,500 DM. Now, the first units show up in 2nd hand lists of German music papers, usually priced around 2,500 to 2,800 DM (often they were combined with Obie Four-Voices which are sold as well, prices are around 6,000 DM). Definitely something to watch out for. The Doepfer A-100 step sequencer seems to be a really nice piece of gear but the negative side is that you always have to buy a module frame with power supply which increases costs vastly (unless you do not have an empty rack already). BFN, Stephen "gearhead" Parsick.
