As for Madonna's "insulting... surreptitious acquisition of a sacred name," that happens to be her birth name, not some kind of attention-grabbing stage name. So blame her mother... Speaking of which, "Madonna" really just means "mother." Now if she were calling herself "Madonna Mary Magdalene" or writing songs called "Like a Virgin Mary," you'd have reason to get bent about it.
