I would recommend getting the 01a over ther JP-08. The 01a is a really nice synth, is a MIDI/CV converter, runs on batteries, seems to have good build quality and the sliders, though small, have a decent throw. Don't take my sizzle test too seriously, it is a very extreme example. I would not recommend a JP-08. There is no way to stop the sequencer when a MIDI start message comes, there is no arpeggiator and, incredibly, the sequencer is not transposable from the keyboard so its just a nice sounding note on/off brick. The 01a is not crippled by any of these (my) complaints.
