Found it today- Rei Harakami's album "Unrest Works" has a quickstep waltz on it, you might argue that it's in 6/8 but I think if you listen to the drum programming and check when the chords change you'll find it really is ONE-two-three ONE-two-three and not in six. Since the backbeat has infiltrated everything, it's hard to write anything in 3 that doesn't sound ponderous, so I see what you're saying and why... but Harakami just jacks up the tempo so you don't even realize it's a waltz until the bass comes in.
