In a message dated 98-02-24 20:02:51 EST, you write: << Chris Watson went on to form Hafler Trio with Andrew McKenzie. He was (and still is) a field recording aficionado, and his stuff is all over the early to mid period Hafler Trio releases. Those releases are all of the highest calibre of course (as are most of the post-Watson Hafler releases, which feature McKenzie alone and often in collaboration with real and imagined others). Watson has done some stuff since under his own name, but I don't know what they're like. I'd like to find out though. >> this is quickly heading into ambient territory, but hell... so just what is the low down on the halfler trio anyhow? are there any articles, books, or interviews w/ or about them that don't reek of the propaganda-ish air that surrounds their packaging? never know quite what to think of what i read and hear of them on their releases. but of course thats just what they want, isnt it...? ;) the packaging is all quite clever and all, and the soundscapes are often times wonderfully intricate, but then i wonder where they/he thinks they/he are actually taking us. just looking for an insight into McKensie's psychology.... ;) -thad ps- cant wait to hear watson's next unmanipulated(?) field recordings :)
