The thing that irritates me is when Industrial people call industrial music...electro. If you mention electro around them they think you are talking about stuff like Front Line Assembly, not stuff like Dopplereffekt or Cybotron. > -Chaos A.D. (Squarepusher's project - there's an upstart industrial act with this name - he might have used it first though) I don't doubt you that there is a Industrial band called that, but maybe they are pretty obscure and not well known. > -It (Side project of industrial band Nightmare Lodge on the Minus > Habens label - this "It" project actually is very IDM oriented though >- dunno about the other "IT") As mentioned earlier IT is an abbreviation for the label Interdimesional Transmissions. > -Klute (Side project of Leæther Strip, now appropriated by IDM act) Well both probably stole it from the movie of the same name. There are many bands that share the same name. There was a band called Nirvana in the 60s or 70s. Oh and Klute on Certificate 18 isn't IDM it's drum n bass.. Dillinja uses the name Cybotron and it was obviously first used as a Juan Atkins project back in 1983. I've seem two different Soma labels. > -Flexitone - The Pawn Shop Years LP (Don't know what this is, but there's a similar IDM-esque side project of Atom Heart called "Flextone") I believe Flexitone on Planet E came first. I remember seeing Flexitone on an early Planet E comp (Experiments and... something) a while back > There are probably others, but these are just the ones I noticed. I've seen it mentioned before in Muzik mag. > I'm sure it's mere coincidence but it seems that every time I read >about IDM music I find another band "borrowing" a pre-established acts > name. It's not really IDM specific, there are tons of bands that share names. I read along time ago that Kervorkian Death Cycle use to be called the Grid. Which as you probably know is the name of a techno band. I have dj friends that have used there names for years only to have someone take it years later. IA good friend of mine has been using H-Bomb for like 5 years and now there is a hip hop artist with that name. Another friend use to go under Stormshadowz and now there is a drum n bass artist named that. Stuff like this just happens. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
