ok -- I am a guy who has the idea that he can make music that people will want to hear. At the same time, I have the opportunity to work with people just getting started who I think the world should hear. One of these folks is Jason Snell, aka Bombadier. He has stuff out on Vinyl Communications and lo res. What jason does is to take the uncomprimising sonic sickness of gabber and milwaukee-style hardcore, and use it to paint emotional portraits. Maybe that sounds pretentious, but I can't say it any better way. Last night he played a set live in Iowa City that was to my ears a nearly perfect realization of music that approaches total sensory overload. On the surface, it's distorted into a fairly terrifying roar, like you're downstream from a large dam giving way. But inside the noise is music that is moody and more complex than the cartoonish bloody mindedness of hardcorps. Direct comparisons can be made with Panacea and Alec Empire's Destroyer guise, but Jason raises the stakes by trying to actually have some you actually feel something when you hear his music. Sooner or later you all will be paying attention to this boy. Bombadier. Ask for it by name! ;-) kent williams -- xxxx@xxxxxx.xxx
