Yes, I also found old NiMH batteries a bit cumbersome at times and could equally do with updating my understanding of what is out there now. The portable power packs (eg. for USB) are pretty convenient these days, but how to simply hook these with legacy AA/C/D holders (unless you have them external but that kind of defeats the original purpose here). And, yes, they do have strict controls for shipment. [Do NiMH batteries leak as badly as alkaline? I *think* not.. ] Again and again it is the 'cheap' approach that gets me in many areas - and I'm definitely no saint. It tends to be a short sighted view - the cheap option solves a problem short term, but paying a bit more with money & time could give an all together better solution. Saying that, I do like bargains and good value! And sometimes there isn't time to delve deep and truly solve the issue. Hmph! Aiming to try my modular on solar power again this year!
