For me the essential things a FM must have are: 1) a "random" button as this is how all my FM patches start. 2) a fun and usable interface Unfortunately, these 2 prerequisites disqualify most Yamaha FM synths.. Like most of you, Ive been through my fair share of FM synths (including = the FS1R) and have currently settled on: PreenFM2 - has random functions - wonderful and usable interface. = Sounds great SammichFM - ditto with the PreenFM and thought it would be redundant = once I got the PreenFM but, it sounds far more gritty so kept it. Yamaha TG33 - simply and restrictive enough to be fun and musical. Nice = and gritty. Yamaha TG77 - the idea of being able to use AWM waves as FM = carrier/modulator (cant remember if they can be both) was too sexy to = ignore but the reality is that without a fun interface, it just remains = unused. Probably will sell. I still don=E2=80=99t thing the ultimate FM synth has been created yet. = Ive not used a Digitakt so maybe that is it but, demos have not really = impressed me. Cool thread..
