From: micha <xxxxxxxx@xx.xxxx-xxxxxx.xx> >test now what you hear is not a test, I'm rappin to the beat and me the krew and my friends are gonna try to move your feet... ---> Say WHAAT ? This is what: The mailman rang at my door in the morning and guess what... DMX017CD !!! I ran to my CD player and put it on and yeah ! Happppy worm spring morning and new DMX Krew in the air ! '17 Ways To Break My Heart' really put a smile on my face. I played it over 50 times. Exellent 80's neo romanticism pop track, with Dave Gahan type vocal. I really miss real pop music... I haven't heard such a great pop since 'Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass' by I-f. or 'Afterlife' by Global goon. Cylob's 'Are We Not Men Who Live And Die' also has it. Maybe new Gian (Bochum Welt) release will surprise me, too. He said, he will make his Mac sing :-) . Fun ! 'Sound of The Street 98' started off really great with claps, oh I Iove those claps, and then the vocoded voice... But it really didn't move me so much as original track. I like it but original is so much better, much more funky , a real B-Boy anthem. 'Bump To The Beat' is another 'X To The Beat' type track (i.e. 'Rock To The Beat pt.1' , 'Rock To The Beat pt.1' , 'Move To The Beat' , ...) Good track, but he has many of these, if you know what I mean. Nothing new for DMX Krew... 'Good Ol' Daze' !!! It's great. Started with soulful strings (early B12 / Kosmik Kommando type...you know that blue sky coloured strings :-) ---> check out the colour of the cover of 'Electro Soma' or colour of the fonts or Kosmik Kommando logo on the 'Freaquensieze' and you'll know what I'm ramblin' about) and than really great acid line which gives the track that special RePHLeX PHeeLin' . He could do it more on rhythm, but overall it's one of the better tracks on EP, imo. 'Syztem Shokk' starts of with a killer groove...killer is moving through the shadows in the cold night type thing. SERIOUS shit. It reminded on some Jimi Tenor or Sukia stuff. And then lot of great synth solos move you around and shake your booty and head. At the and of track you can hear guitar solo by Jones which fitted in really nice and gave even more groooove feelin' to the track. 'Say You'll Never' is along with 1st track the best track on the CD, imo ofcourse. Great soulful jazzy r'n'b type melodies and hip-hop rhythms and then the vocoded voice, brilliant ! I really liked the way vocoded voice is combined with vocoded solos. And when Ed said " I'll call you ! "... I almost fell of the chair... yeahhh pure funk ! This track is CD only, and for you vinyl freaks I would buy it on CD just because of this track. I like the EP, but it seems to me that it's sort of anouncer for the forthcoming "Nu Romantix" album, because a lot of different type tracks are here that are probably left of when compiling the album (5th) or older stuff (i.e. 2nd, 3rd, 4th). I expect that album will be something like '17 Ways To Break My Heart' and 'Say You'll Never' which are real gems on this release and which definitely represent new ffrresshhh sound of the DMX Krew. Afterall, I'm really looking forward to hear the album. Score : 717hearts of 1000 bye rob
