This week's stash...

. Luke Slater: Freek Funk CD (Nova Mute)
Luke Slater with his debut full-length for the Nova Mute label.
On this release you hear tracks that sound like Planetary Assault
Systems, 7th Plain, Morganistic and Luke Slater in addition to
some stuff that you're never heard from Luke before. The styles
range from hard techno to idm to ambient techno with a few
incursions into dub, jazz and trip hop. On the hard tracks
slater rocks. On the ambi-techno tracks slater soars. With the
exception of a few tracks where slater dabbles in other genres,
this release is brilliant. 9/10

. Mion: Miori 12" (Music Man)
Former Soma, Out On A Limb and Generations recording artist
Chris Cowie with his third 12" on the Belgian Music Man label.
Three tracks of exceptional minimal tech-house with a smooth
detroit edge. The crisp percussion, deep bass, and moody synths
give all three tracks a kenny larkin meets claude young feel.
Are all the Percy X records this good? 10/10

. Ephebe: Visions 12" (Mosaic 007)
Steve O'Sullivan delivers three tracks of funky stripped-down
techno in the As It Is vein. The a-side is my favorite with it's
lasergun noises over minimal tech beats. Another goodin for
fans of the As It Is, Soma or Music Man sound. 7/10

. Kosmic Messenger: The collected works of... 2x12" (Elypsia)
On this double pack Stacey Pullen showcases his talent for
producing funky detroit techno-house. This release features
five new tracks and five previously released classics like
Eye to Eye, Flash, Freaky Deeky, The Deathmarch, and Get Down.
If you enjoy pumping floor-friendly tech-house with a detroit
flair, you'll love this lp. 8/10

. Birds: 111 One 12" (PAL 03)
The third release on Peter Ford's PAL label is a three track
collaborative effort by Peter Ford, Kotai & Bader. The a-side
is a deep bassy minimal electro number. The b-side is two tracks
of moody experimental mid-tempo techno in the typical Peter Ford/
Ifach style. The two b-cuts do it for me. 8/10

. Sleep Engineer: Three Ways 12" (Xplor)
Quality techno from Columbus Ohio courtesy of Kevin Kennedy
aka Powerhouse on 21/22 corp and F.B.K. on Frictional. Three
innovative and melodic techno tracks that tweak the standard
techno sound enough to really make this an engaging release.
Fans of 21/22 Corp, Infra, Indulge or some of the more floor
friendly Plug Research releases will like this 12". 8/10

. Yunx: Bill Odyssey 12" (Void)
The Void label is very loyal to the black dog & plaid "sound"
and this four tracker keeps that "sound" going. The a-side
features two tracks of string laden rhythmic techno
reminiscent of Bytes era Black Dog Productions. The b-side,
with it's polyrhythms and jazzy synths sounds more like
"spanners" era Black Dog Productions. If you like the BDP
releases of old this 12", and most other Void label 12"s
are for you. 9/10
