yep, you're right on the money there.  this album is just plain
brilliant.  it's got a lot of that plateau/off and gone vibe to it (no
surprise as philth is becoming more and more heavily involved with
download).  i actually like it more than the plateau stuff, which i
think on the whole tended to work better as background music.  this
album has a lot more variety in the rhythms (the first track has an
indescribably funky breakbeaty/electro feel to it), and the melodies
have that soaring evolutionary quality that made the off and gone
album so amazing.  i'm also glad they dropped the skinny puppy wannabe
vocals.  i'm sure fans of harshness are pissed that mark spybey left
the group but i vastly prefer the more solidly techno direction
they're taking now.  III is easily the most coherent and enjoyable
download album to date.  get it today!

i also picked up the download "Charlie's Family" cd for cheap, haven't
even had a chance to listen to it yet since III has been so
relentlessly compelling.

now if only i could find the new eat static album i could rest easy.
